Prison Island Tour, Zanzibar

Just a short boat ride from Stone Town lies Prison Island (Changuu), one of Zanzibar’s most popular half-day escapes. Originally built as a prison and later used as a quarantine station, the island is today best known for its colony of giant Aldabra tortoises — gentle giants, some more than 150 years old. Wander the historic grounds, feed and photograph the tortoises, then cool off with a snorkel over the coral reef in the clear waters around the island.
